2019 Charity Donations

As many of you know, I have had some severe financial difficulties the past few years. Since leaving home, we’ve had many days when we didn’t know how we would pay the bills or if we would have a place to live in a month.

My readers have seen me through under employment, unemployment, low self-esteem, and extreme depressive episodes.

In the past few months it has finally become possible for me to give back. I am now able to offer payment for guest bloggers (I’m hoping to increase the payout later in the year), and I can pay for more services for my books and the blog.

In 2019, I would like to donate a portion of all my sales to charity, and that’s where you guys come in.

I want your input on what causes you are most supportive of. Below is a list of the charities I personally follow. My one caveat is that the charity MUST be inclusive, and must provide aid regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, or identity.

Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontiers–Provides emergency and long term medical care to areas affected by war, poverty, and natural disasters.

NAMI–The National Alliance on Mental Illness is a group that partners with Steampunk Symposium (that would be the convention where I attend and speak every year!) and provides support for those with mental illness and their families.

ACLU–The American Civil Liberties Union has been fighting for equal rights for all in this country for decades, and is currently protecting women, immigrant, and POC from a rollback in civil rights.

The Navajo Water Project–Currently in the US, over 40% of Native peoples living on reservations have no clean running water. Many of those also do not have access to electricity, emergency services, hospitals, grocery stores, or other services that the rest of the country takes for granted.

I’ll be running a poll on Twitter starting today (You’ll be able to find it as my pinned tweet on my profile).

The exact portion I will be donating is currently up in the air, but it will be somewhere between 5-15% of book sales. I’ll be keeping track sales and will update you on the amount donated at the end of the year.

If there’s another charity you would like to see me support, just leave a link in the comments.

And thank you all for giving me this opportunity.

  1. All these are great charities, but I’m partial to water. On some Indian reservations, residents have to drive upwards of 20 miles just to get water. So sad. :0(

    1. That’s one of the reasons I picked NWP! I looked at some other organizations, but I couldn’t find very many that specifically address an immediate, urgent need on a large scale for Native populations in North America.
