Finished Object Friday

DSCF1151Despite the fact that our weather is (finally) heating up, my knitting mojo has been going in force. You wouldn’t know it, though, because I’m currently in that black hole of knitting on several large projects, where I knit and knit and knit and nothing seems to get bigger. I did, however, knock out this shawl right before Symposium.

I absolutely love how squishy and soft it is. I got about halfway done with it before discovering that a) I didn’t have enough yarn and b) in the 4-5 years it’s been sitting in my stash, the colorway was discontinued.

Shock!

Horror!

Panic!DSCF1154

I had to scour Ravelry for someone who had it in their stash and would be willing to sell it to me for a reasonable amount. Alas, 5 of the 6 people I found were all inactive!

Thinking all hope was lost, someone finally got back to me and offered 3 skeins of the required colorway at a discounted price. I snapped them up and was able to finish the shawl in about 2-3 weeks.

The pattern was…loosely inspired by Reyna, but I basically followed the cast on directions and then took it from there. I didn’t follow it very closely at all. It’s not much different from my Brass and Steam shawls, actually, except the eyelet bands are several rows deep instead of a single row.

The yarn is Premier Yarns Deborah Norville Serenity Garden, which is a sport weight synthetic yarn. Nonetheless, it’s very soft an I haven’t had the problem with it degrading after a few years the way I do with Red Heart or other acrylic yarns. I’ve used it many times in the past, even for socks, and it’s both comfortable and holds up well.

The problematic colorway is called Roses. It alternates between light and medium pink and a nice chocolate brown. It makes me think of Neapolitan ice cream (or at least the strawberry and chocolate stripes, which are by far the best).

Hopefully I’ll have more projects to show you soon, both sewing and knitting.
